This just makes me laugh. As I began this post, I literally began laughing out loud. Toyota has stated that the price tag to fix all the problems with their recalled vehicles could be a lot higher than they originally intended. The first estimate from Toyota to fix the problems came out on February 4th, and was staggering” $2 billion to fix it. Now, however, that number could grow even higher as Toyota begins to really explore the extent of the problems.
Don’t forget that Toyota made the $2 billion estimate without even knowing how to fix the problems with the acceleration and the braking systems on their vehicles, so this doesn’t come as too much of a shock…considering that they still don’t know what the main problem is, or how to fix it. Toyota is looking at taking a full on $5.5 billion hit which includes all the litigation settlements and all recall-related costs, which is actually better than the $5.9 billion that was originally stated. And still Toyota thinks it will post a profit…but how? When your product sucks and you have to pay money to fix it, it seems like a lose-lose to me. No one buys your products and you still have to pay to fix them…no money in, a bunch out. I smell a scandal.
